    The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is recruiting for a Senior Staff Accountant reporting to Controller.

    Responsibilities

    To manage the accounting services and budget preparation for seven CASE districts, including monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, trial balances and financial reporting, to include balance sheets, revenues and expenses, pooled district investments and preparing ad hoc reports for District treasurers. This position is also responsible for the administration of the CASE expense reporting system Concur.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


    The core functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

     

    Program/Project Management

     

    1. Managing the accounting services and budget preparation for seven CASE districts including monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, trial balances and financial reporting, including balance sheets, revenues and expenses, pooled district investments and ad hoc reports. Financial reports should be provided to the CASE Controller for review and then distributed to all district treasurers no later than the third week of each month.

     

    2. Serving as the primary point of contact between the district treasurers and centralized financial services provided by CASE headquarters such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, banking services and external auditors. Specific tasks include processing cash transactions, issuing receipts to CASE customers, follow-up on outstanding district invoices, and processing refund requests and credit memos.

     

    3. Managing CASE lockbox transactions; preparing electronic batches; updating lockbox reconciliations; managing billing and collection processes; and posting cash receipts from CASE headquarters and district lockboxes and live checks in the accounting system on a weekly basis.

     

    4. Reconcile all District balance sheet accounts monthly and provide to Controller for review and sign off.

     

    5. Managing the corporate credit card approval and reconciliation process, including system administration; monitoring the submission of receipts by CASE staff and the approval of expenses by department managers; and creating monthly management reports on outstanding expense documentation and supervisor approvals.

     

    6. Provides support for the annual audit process including preparing schedules and account reconciliations requested by external auditors for both CASE headquarters and the seven districts for the preparation of consolidated CASE financial statements, annual district financial statement reviews and the preparation of IRS Form 990 for each entity.

     

    7. Responds to and provides ongoing customer service to District treasurers and CASE headquarters department/budget managers as requested.

     

    Budget Responsibilities

     

    1. Exercises fiscal responsibility in all aspects of the position.

     

    Image Responsibilities

     

    1. Ensures that CASE is well represented to the outside world by exercising a high degree of professionalism in all activities.

     

    Liaison Responsibilities

     

    1. Exhibits appropriate leadership toward and works cooperatively and diplomatically with all District groups for which this position is responsible for supporting.

     

    2. Collaborate with CASE colleagues in other parts of the world to ensure the best sharing of ideas, expertise and knowledge.

     

    Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration plus five or more (5+) years of experience in performing major accounting functions, including journal entries, revenue recognition, account reconciliations, budgeting and financial reporting.  A master’s degree in accounting and/or certified public accounting licensure are preferred but not required and are equivalent to two additional years of experience. 

     

    Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and analytical skills; high productivity; ability to manage multiple priorities; demonstrated experience and proven ability to interact with multiple internal and external constituencies and maintain confidentiality.  Excellent oral and written communications skills and technical knowledge of integrated accounting and financial management, reporting and budgeting systems.
